Porsche Cars North America is issuing a voluntary safety recall for 2017 through 2019 model year 718 Boxsters and Caymans. Porsche has indicated that in a frontal crash test a longitudinal crash beam may not perform as intended. As a result, the lower crash beam may penetrate the bulkhead wall or fuel tank. This causes the component to be non-compliant with certain requirements of .
The recall is being implemented as a result of internal quality control efforts by Porsche. Per the manufacturer this defect has not resulted in accidents or injuries to date.
Affected vehicles will be recalled to authorized Porsche dealers, and the lower longitudinal member will be secured with additional rivets. Owners will be notified about the recall by mail, and per the manufacturer the work will take about an hour and a half and will be handled free of charge. 14,388 vehicles in the United States and Puerto Rico are affected.
